About the brand
Susana Barbosa Jewellery was born from the search for balance between form, meaning, and permanence. Founded by Susana Barbosa, the brand explores contemporary jewelry as an extension of personal identity—pieces designed to accompany daily life and transcend time. Each collection stems from a sensitive observation of space, the body, and the relationship between fullness and emptiness, reflection and matter. The creative process unfolds through design, manual experimentation, and attention to detail, resulting in minimalist jewelry with character and presence. Produced in small series, SBJ pieces prioritize durability, quality materials, and a conscious approach to production. We believe that jewelry should be more than just an object—it should carry intention, memory, and meaning.
About the designer
Susana Barbosa Jewellery is driven by a search for balance between form, meaning, and permanence. Founded by Susana Barbosa, the brand explores contemporary jewellery as an extension of personal identity — pieces conceived to accompany everyday life and endure over time. Each collection emerges from a sensitive observation of space, the body, and the relationship between fullness and emptiness, reflection and materiality. The creative process unfolds through drawing, hands-on experimentation, and close attention to detail, resulting in minimalist jewellery with character and presence. Produced in small series, SBJ pieces prioritise durability, material quality, and a conscious approach to production. We believe that jewellery should be more than an object — it should carry intention, memory, and meaning.
Conscious Production
At Susana Barbosa Jewellery, we believe that contemporary design must go hand in hand with responsibility. Our pieces are produced in small series, reducing waste and allowing for rigorous quality control and finishes. We work primarily with 925 silver, chosen for its durability and ability to last for generations; coated brass is also used in certain collections, given the durability that these coatings provide. We prioritize manual processes, local production whenever possible, and packaging designed to minimize environmental impact. Every decision, from the material to the final delivery, is guided by the intention to create jewelry with meaning, longevity, and respect for the world around us.

Contemporary jewelry designed to last, both on the body and over time.

Inspiration
Susana Barbosa's inspiration stems from observing space and form. Minimalist architecture, with its clean lines and silent rhythms, intersects with the colors of the city of Porto — restrained tones, vibrant materials, Atlantic light. Between simplicity and sophistication, each piece seeks balance: the essential, without excess, designed to exist naturally on the body and in everyday life.

Practice and Experimentation
The brand's practice is influenced by the designer's background and continuous experimentation. Beyond developing collections, Susana Barbosa leads workshops and projects related to jewelry and design, maintaining constant research into materials, techniques, and alternative combinations. This experimental dimension is reflected in the pieces, where research and manual craftsmanship go hand in hand.
Materials & Creative Process
Susana Barbosa Jewellery's work develops from a direct relationship with matter. Silver and brass are the base metals, chosen for their resistance, malleability, and ability to withstand the test of time. Resins and other materials are combined, explored as elements of contrast and experimentation. In parallel, Susana Barbosa's practice also develops in an experimental and artistic territory, where the reuse of everyday materials plays a central role. Often discarded materials are incorporated into the creative process as a way to question value, function, and permanence, giving rise to unique pieces, far removed from a logic of mass production. Through jewelry, these elements are reinterpreted, gaining new reading and meaning. The exploration of alternative combinations, mixed techniques, and manual processes is part of an ongoing investigation, where each piece results from a dialogue between material, form, and gesture. More than a starting point, the materials become active agents in the process, influencing decisions, rhythms, and results. In this approach, jewelry emerges as a territory of conscious experimentation, where material research, manual craftsmanship, and attention to detail go hand in hand.
